Currently, Samsung is reportedly working on a new foldable smartphone called Galaxy Wide Fold, a design which would revolutionize the conventional design of its Galaxy Z Fold lineup of devices. The new device, as leaked from Korea, has a wide and almost square design, with the intention of offering a better viewing experience for multimedia content, as reported.

The Galaxy Wide Fold would come with an internal screen of about 7.4 inches, an exterior screen of 5.4 inches, so viewers can watch their movies and TV shows with no black bars as there are on most conventional foldables now.

The aim of this new development by Samsung is quite clear: it plans to compete with the first foldable iPhone, which Apple is due to launch in 2026. Although these gadgets are due to arrive in the same year, it is apparent that Samsung may arrive before Apple with this new technology.

At this point, it is unclear whether the final product will come in a perfectly square form factor or if it has a corner curve, but it’s said that Samsung is focusing on enhancing durability and minimizing the crease, which received a lot of flak for its existence in foldables thus far.
