Apple Confirms iPhone Duo’s 4,883 mAh Battery Capacity

An EU energy label has confirmed the iPhone Duo's total battery capacity at 4,883 mAh, placing Apple's first foldable between the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max.

Apple has officially confirmed the iPhone Duo battery capacity through an EU energy label published on Friday, putting a hard number on one of the most-debated specs of its first foldable phone. The label lists a total capacity of 4,883 mAh, matching a leak that surfaced before launch showing two separate cells: a 2,962 mAh unit and a 1,921 mAh unit combined across the device’s book-style design.

What the label confirms

EU energy labels are regulatory documents, not marketing material, so they tend to be treated as reliable sources for hardware specs ahead of teardown reports. In this case, the label backs up a battery leak that had already circulated, removing any doubt about the iPhone Duo’s actual capacity. Because the iPhone Duo is an eSIM-only device with no physical SIM tray in any region, this 4,883 mAh figure should be the same number worldwide rather than varying by market the way some past iPhones have.

How it compares to the rest of the iPhone 18 lineup

For context, iFixit previously measured the eSIM-only iPhone 18 Pro at 4,288 mAh and the iPhone 18 Pro Max at 5,567 mAh. That places the iPhone Duo’s battery squarely in between the two: larger than the standard Pro model, but noticeably smaller than the Pro Max. Given that the iPhone Duo has to fit its battery cells around a folding hinge and two separate displays rather than one flat body, landing in that middle range is a reasonable engineering outcome rather than a surprise shortfall.

What it means for battery life

Raw mAh numbers only tell part of the story, especially on a foldable. The iPhone Duo’s outer display is smaller than the Pro Max’s screen, which should help it sip less power when the phone is used closed, similar to a normal-sized iPhone. The larger inner display, however, draws more power whenever the phone is unfolded, so actual battery life will depend heavily on how much time a given owner spends in the folded versus unfolded state. Buyers coming from a standard iPhone and planning to use the inner screen frequently should expect endurance closer to the smaller-battery iPhone 18 Pro, while those who mostly keep the Duo closed may see results closer to what the capacity split suggests.

Why this matters for buyers

Battery capacity has been one of the most-watched questions around the iPhone Duo since before launch, partly because foldables generally have to compromise on cell size compared to slab phones of similar price. With the number now confirmed rather than leaked, shoppers comparing the Duo against the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max have a concrete data point to weigh against the Duo’s folding design, larger inner screen, and other trade-offs noted elsewhere, such as the features it skips compared to the standard Pro lineup. It’s also worth remembering that demand for the device has already been strong enough that Apple has called it extraordinary, with shipping estimates slipping for some orders.

Don’t count on buying one in a store on launch day

Apple Store employees told MacRumors they have been advised there will likely be no iPhone Duo stock for walk-in buyers on launch day, Friday, October 23, and to discourage people without a pre-order from coming in. Apple’s website tells shoppers to check back on Saturday, October 24 for pickup, though that does not guarantee stock either.

The bottom line

The iPhone Duo’s confirmed 4,883 mAh battery capacity sits comfortably between the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, which is about what you’d expect from a foldable squeezing cells around a hinge and two screens. It’s not the biggest battery in Apple’s current lineup, but it’s far from the smallest either, and how it performs in daily use will come down to how much time owners spend on the larger inner display versus the smaller outer one.
