Google Teases Fitbit Edge Tracker Ahead of October 12 Reveal

Google has all but confirmed its next fitness tracker, the Fitbit Edge, with a teaser campaign pointing to an October 12 reveal and a spot between the Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch 5.

Google has stopped being coy about its next fitness tracker. New posts on Instagram and X show a close-up of a side button alongside the caption “Get an Edge on your health. 10.12.26,” which all but confirms both the name of the device — the Fitbit Edge — and the date it will be revealed: October 12.

A name and design that leaked months ago

This isn’t really a surprise. Images of an unnamed fitness tracker first showed up in Google’s own Pixel 11 marketing materials back in August, spotted by 9to5Google. Earlier this week, Android Headlines published images confirming the “Fitbit Edge” name along with details on its built-in apps and health tracking features. French outlet Dealabs then added more specifics, including battery life estimates and a possible European price.

Google’s teaser doesn’t add new technical details, but capitalizing “Edge” in the caption lines up with what the leaks have already described, so the wearable’s identity now looks all but locked in ahead of Monday’s reveal.

Where the Edge is expected to sit in Google’s lineup

According to the reporting so far, the Fitbit Edge is positioned as a middle option between two existing Google wearables: the screenless Fitbit Air, which Google launched earlier this year, and the more premium Pixel Watch 5. That would make it a more capable tracker than the Air without the full smartwatch feature set — and price — of the Pixel Watch line.

Dealabs reports the Edge could last up to seven days on a charge with its always-on display turned off, dropping to about two days if the display stays on. On pricing, the leak points to roughly €179 in Europe, which converts to about $200. Since the Fitbit Air starts at $99 in the US and €99 in Europe, the Edge could end up closer to $180 stateside, though Google hasn’t confirmed any of these figures.

Why this matters for Fitbit fans

Google hasn’t refreshed its mid-size fitness tracker line since the Fitbit Charge 6 in 2023, so a new model is overdue. If the leaked details hold up, the Edge looks like a logical step up from the Fitbit Air for people who want more tracking features without jumping to a full smartwatch. It would also give Google another way to steer people toward a Google Health Premium subscription.

Anyone currently using an aging Charge 6 or considering the entry-level Fitbit Air now has a reason to wait a few days before buying, since the Edge’s exact feature set, pricing, and availability should become clear very soon.

The bottom line

Google’s teaser campaign confirms what leaks have pointed to for weeks: a new Fitbit Edge tracker is coming, aimed at the space between the budget Fitbit Air and the full-featured Pixel Watch 5. Battery life and pricing details are still unconfirmed and should be treated as estimates until Google’s October 12 event, but the broader strategy — a mid-tier tracker nudging more users toward Google Health Premium — is easy to read between the lines.
