New Play Station 5 Pro (PS5)

Sources: HardZone

According to HardZone rumors of the next version of the Sony console. Recently, the company has launched the PS5 Slim, a very compact console made possible thanks to the evolution of technology. Now, rumors and information focus on the PS5 Pro, which could be launched this year.

What do we know about the new console?

Officially, nothing. But in the technology industry it is very difficult to keep secrets or, well, it is not very interesting to keep them. Let’s be realistic, they give us hints so that we have the “hype” at its highest and we are aware of possible developments.

So far, we know, at least, the hardware of the new console. It could bring a semi-custom AMD processor. This processor would have 8 cores of Zen 2 architecture, the same one used in the Ryzen 3000. This architecture is manufactured in the 7 nm process, but it is possible that the 6 nm node will be used for the chips in this console ( polished version of the 7nm node) or perhaps other more advanced nodes.

Something is also said about the working frequency of this processor. The PS5 works at a frequency of 3.5 GHz, which will be improved in this new chip. Rumors suggest that, at a minimum, the maximum frequency would be 3.85 GHz, although some speculate that it could be up to 4.4 GHz.

The processor could also include NPU, a special type of core for artificial intelligence. This makes a lot of sense, especially to strengthen image rescaling technologies and the inclusion of other AI technologies.

The graphics card, it seems there could be a change. Rumors suggest that it will integrate an RNDA 3 architecture graphics card, which is the same one used in the AMD RX 7000. Apparently it would have a total of 56 Compute Units, which means that it would have a higher power than the RX 7700 XT . It would make sense, since it is said that the amount of FPS would be increased by 45%.

There would be no new developments in storage, the same capacities would remain. Apparently, the console will maintain the 16 GB of RAM, but in this case it will have a bandwidth of 576 GB/s. Let’s remember that the “normal” PS5 has a memory bandwidth of 448 GB/s.

Possible new controls

Nothing is known about this. It is possible that they will launch a new controller with the console, an advanced and/or improved version of the current DualSense. It could still be a higher version.

Cost $$

The arrival of the PS5 Pro will mean a domino effect with the rest of the company’s consoles. Obviously, the “normal” PS5 would be discontinued and it is speculated that the Slim could drop to $400 Dollars.

According to rumors, the PS5 Pro without a disc reader could cost around $500 Dollars, which would make a lot of sense. The version with a reader is speculated to cost between $550-$600 Dollars, being somewhat more expensive. The version without a reader may be slightly less powerful than the version with a reader, which means an additional cost.
